WOODEN TOYS – ARE THEY STILL RELEVANT
Once wooden toys are mentioned there is a tendancy on the part of some to think of them as just another usless gift from an older relative. This is far from the case and in recent years the full benefits of wooden toys is getting more attention and recognition.
We are not suggesting that all electronic toys are bad or that children should be prevented from playing with the latest toys or gimmicks. That would lead to a very boring time. The aim of this blog is to promote the benefits and fun that can be had with traditional wooden toys, including trains planes and automobiles !
Imagination is one sense or skill that can be deleloped through the use of wooden toys. Take a simple stack of wooden blocks. If you approach things the right way there is no reason why your child should not get hours of fun with them. Lego pieces can be very small and a choking hazard so larger wooden blocks are perfect for younger children.
Motor skills can also be encouraged through play with wooden toys. The simple task of placing the right shaped block in the right space is not only great fun but is the first rung on the ladder in the development of fine motor skills.
As we said above there is no need to exclude electronic toys from your child’s play box. it is just about getting the balance right and giving your child the opportunity to experience toys of all shapes and variety.
